For this reason, the replay gain feature can appear to be different, but rest assured it is working "as intended". This means the result you got from EAC 15 years ago might be different to the one you get from MB today. Also the "target" level can be different between software, and can often be adjusted by the user (ie, loudness-target+user=replaygain). The method for calculating the replay gain values: The algorithms used to calculate the "loudness" have evolved over time. However, there is more to the story, as there are 2 factors that may be causing you a different result vs Foobar. By enabling normalise volume of tracks with replay gain tags, MB will read the replay gain tags in the files metadata, and then dynamically adjust the volume, like it should. This setting is badly labelled by having the word normalise in it, because old-school normalisation was a destructive process like OP mentions (normalisation would analyse the file, then re-write it with the volume at the target level). In MB preferences window, then Player tab, the setting to enable replay gain during playback is called normalise volume of tracks with replay gain tags. I was looking for some other info on Google and came across this post, and just thought I would set the record straight (as a long term MusicBee user). Not per track obviously.Ĭould anyone give me some insights on this?

I would want to analyze and apply changes to my whole collection at once. Also, if this is the replacement or 'counter' of Foobars' Replay Gain. For a few tracks I tried the 'Volume Analysis' and with 1 track it did do something and with another it didn't really. Now, as far as I know normalizing is something you want to avoid. Can't find the setting right now, so I hope you guys understand what I mean with 'Peak Volume' meter.Īnyway, I was going through the settings and found this option: 'normalise volume of tracks with replay gain tags' I didn't have the 'Peak Volume' meter enabled, so I couldn't see if it was a volume issue. I played the track in Foobar and there was indeed a huge difference. For the last last 2 days I've been playing around with MusicBee and yesterday I had the feeling that volume was kinda low with a certain track. I've been using Foobar for at least 10 years and I've always been using Replay Gain for music (files).
